What is a Kombucha? 什麼是康普茶?

 Kombucha is sweetened tea fermented by a community of organisms into a delicious sweet, tart and bubbly tonic beverage. 

 The community of organisms - SCOBY - converts unrefined raw cane sugar into beneficial enzymes, vitamins, micronutrients, and bacteria to help keep you and your gut happy. 

 Kombucha has many origin stories dating back thousands of years, but it is most likely thought to have originated in Manchurian China in 220BC and traveled its way around the world under many monikers. 

 Whether you call the starter culture the “magical mushroom” “tea mushroom” or “Elixir of the East” it all refers to the beneficial qualities of this healthy fermented tea.

What is a SCOBY? 什麼是海寶?

The SCOBY stands for:  Symbiotic Culture Of Bacteria and Yeast. Also referred to as the ‘mother’, this is the living culture that makes kombucha so special. A great analogy is to think of it as the ‘home’ for the good bacteria and healthy yeasts that magically transforms tea into kombucha. 

海寶全稱:細菌和酵母的共生培養,亦稱「母菌」,這是造就康普茶特別的益生菌,可想像它為住着好細菌與健康酵母的「家」,奇妙地轉茶成康普茶。

What’s the deal with sugar in Kombucha? 康普茶含糖量是?

All Bombooch kombucha starts with a culture that needs sugar to convert into its healthy form. It is broken down to create a healthy community of beneficial organisms. What is left is residual sugar equating to 74% less than you would find in a commercial soda.   

糖作為所有Bombooch菌母的養分,從而轉化成健康茶飲。糖被分解後轉化成健康有益的的生物菌叢,而残糖量比市面上的蘇打水少74%。

How is kombucha a “living” beverage? 為何康普茶是活性飲料?

The live cultures in every Bombooch Kombucha are a vibrant strong community of beneficial bacteria and yeasts. They are sung to daily to ensure their happiness. This is because we follow a traditional fermentation and brewing process using a relative of the same live culture that we used for our very first batch. 

The brewing process happens in a warm environment and our testing has shown that live cultures not only survive but thrive right throughout their shelf life.

Is there any alcohol in your kombucha? 康普茶含酒精嗎?

All of our drinks are non-alcoholic. When it comes to Bombooch Kombucha, a trace amount of alcohol can be produced during the natural fermentation process. As a commercially brewed kombucha, we thoroughly test our products to ensure that this does not go above 0.5% as per Macau and Hong Kong standards for non-alcoholic drinks.

To put it in perspective, a very ripe banana can contain up to 0.4% ABV, and naturally squeezed orange juice can also contain alcohol as well.

Is there caffeine in Bombooch Kombucha? 康普茶含咖啡因嗎?

 Each serving of Bombooch Kombucha has between 10-30mg of caffeine depending on the tea base, which is very low. This is due to the caffeine of tea being naturally reduced through the fermentation process. 

 To put it into perspective, coffee can contain more than 100mg of caffeine depending on how strongly it is brewed.

簡單來說,咖啡可含多於100毫克咖啡因,因烘焙強度而異。

 How should I store Bombooch Kombucha?

All of our raw, live cultured drinks are best served chilled (although some of our Bombooch fans will drink them at any temp). 

They contain living cultures that when left at room temperature are in their happy place and will continue to thrive and possibly create a more acidic drink than when bought off the shelf. 

 It is recommended to drink and store Bombooch Kombucha at 2-6C.

Can I drink Bombooch Kombucha if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers have been safely consuming fermented food and drinks for thousands of years. This includes kombucha. We test each and every batch to ensure it meets the highest food safety standards, but every mother should make their own decision and consult their physician as needed.

You bet! We know lots of kids who have grown up enjoying kombucha including our founder’s and employee's children, as well as many other types of fermented food and drinks. However, every parent should make an educated decision including consulting their family physician.
